Imagine you could go back a few years and tell Sydneysiders that, come 2012, Redfern would have some cool bars and restaurants. People would have raised their eyebrows and thought you were peculiar. But they would have been wrong, because south of Cleveland Street is seriously happening these days, and it’s thanks to places like Dry Land Bar.

Sydney is starting to feel a lot like Melbourne these days – bars so secret you need a password to get into them; restaurants in laneways so obscure they’ll give your GPS a meltdown. Maybe that’s why Eathouse Diner in Redfern, with its bold and brassy ‘Eat Here’ sign and colourful, in-your-face facade is such a refreshing addition to the inner-city dining landscape.

I think I would live here if I could. Actually, come to think of it, I kind of have been of late. Redfern’s coolest small bar is a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it affair tucked in between outlet stores diagonally across from Redfern’s scariest bar (Railz).
