In a modest restaurant on Brunswick Street there lives a dragon. In one hand it wields a spoon of diced vegetables. In another a fork-impaled block of tofu. In yet another (dragons have many limbs), a bowl of noodles and peas.
No doubt you’ve heard of New York’s SoHo, Greenwich Village and Lower East Side. Well now Melbourne can join in with the groovy neighbourhood names: welcome to the Inner West Side, home to the New York–inspired Luncheonette in Kensington.

When you’re out for dinner on a Friday or Saturday night and going to a gig later, you don’t want to spend 4 hours at a fancy restaurant constantly looking at your watch to figure out if you’ve got time for dessert. This was the thinking of Elena Bonnici, who wanted to run a pizza restaurant that delivered not only quick service, but great quality ingredients too.
