Goshen | Fitzroy, Melbourne

FEELING PECKISH?, MELBOURNE, Melbourne Inner North — By on 04/10/2011 3:46 pm

It seems like most of the Koreans in Melbourne are busy running Japanese restaurants, which is a pity, because we could do with more restaurants like Goshen. With its spicy, sweet, hearty food and famously eccentric menus, Goshen sits just at the point where Smith Street changes from shabby to chic.

This comfortable little restaurant, with its green stencilled walls and dark furniture, is a great place for date, a special event or just a spicy bite to eat – although booking is a good idea, because the secret isn’t too well kept. Goshen is a far cry from the usual Korean hotplate, offering unique treats like the crispy rice stone hot pot (listed on the menu under ;Flintstone’), and Korean pizza-like pancakes topped with seafood or kimchi (listed under ;Australia Pie’).

The friendly staff can offer recommendations for each dish, and they can even turn down the chilli if you can’t take the heat. Good way to test a first date? Maybe.
